The LIBME Beer Style Appreciation Group will begin meeting monthly on Thursday evenings. The first meeting will be held Thursday, October 16th at Donavan’s home pub. Rich and I have tentatively agreed that we’ll be tasting Oktoberfests that night, but we could change our minds.
The plan is this: We’ll meet at a specified location. One person will be responsible for bringing the beers under discussion that evening. Attendees will divide the total cost of the beer equally and reimburse the person bringing the beer (remember we don’t have club dues to cover these sorts of expenses). Someone will be responsible for leading the tasting and discussion, but all are welcome to bone up on the subject and show off their knowledge. Eventually, we’ll be evaluating the beers in much the same way as beer judges do. The goal is not only to learn the beer styles, but to develop our palates and become better at identifying and describing flavors and aromas.
By way of preparation for the meeting, you should check out the Beer Judge Certification Program web site and the Cicerone web site. Most of the materials for study will come from those sites.

Depending on the size of the group, my house in Bellport can be used for future meetings.
