I wrote a preview a few weeks ago of Patchogue’s newest craft beer bar for The Beer Hall. The place is called Once & For All and it’s located on Patchogue’s Main Street (Montauk Hwy) just east of North Ocean Drive on the south side. It will be open in the evenings Tuesday through Sunday.
Daniel U. posted this review of opening night to our BeerMalt mailing list:
It was the official opening night at OAFA, not that much was made of it, and I arrived at 2045 (quarter to nine to you murricans) to a crowd of about a dozen in this small bar. Dave was behind the bar with the bar maid Danielle. What’s new is that the Blue Point Pale Ale that we all know and… now has been replaced on cask by the Rastafarian Rye by the same brewery. This was amber coloured, delicious, and spicy, and I hope you all have a chance to taste it. The Chimay was out but Dave says they’re getting some more tomorrow.
Bad news however is that the Saison Dupont is off for the foreseeable future — Dave caught a dodgy keg and sent it back — so for the time being we have no Saison on tap any more. It has been replaced by Julius Echter Hefeweizen, the light one, which I am told is nice but I did not taste it. Dave’s got proper glassware so expect to get a lot of beer for your buck. Also they have started putting out little bowls of pistachios at the bar, very nice.
Dave says the bar will be open Tuesdays - Sundays from next week with Mondays closed, for now. I don’t know what the food deal is and saw no obviously placed menus. It makes a nice change, however, in a bar on Long Island, to be able to sit down at the bar without having a menu of random pub grub waved menacingly at you as soon as you have had a sip of beer. I know they will have food eventually, and I am told it will be tapas and associated small plates, soups etc. This strikes me as a wise decision since there are so many decent restaurants in Patchogue already; why compete with them at their own game?
We welcome Dave and his business partner, Jean, to the Long Island beer scene. We wish them luck. Head over there and let Dave know you are a Long Island Beer & Malt Enthusiast.

It helps the bar to have a menu as it employs waiters who derive income from service, thus taking a load of the bar, and it cuts down their liability insurance.
I will look forward to the tapas as I have not had them since going to a little place in Ithaca, NY, near Cornell, known as “Just A Taste..”.
